i've completed Courtney. it came out really large around the shoulders and neckline. i did a few rounds of crochet (working every other stitch) around the neckline in order to make it smaller. now it fits great and i'm really pleased with it.

i've been such a devoted, little knitter. i've been diligently knitting Courtney. i'm finishing up the second sleeve now. i don't usually mind finishing. in fact, i often love it. but finishing with Kidsilk Crack can be a bit of a pain in the ass. i'm keeping my fingers crossed that i'll be able to breeze through it without too many problems. i'm really happy that i've been able to stay focused on this and ignore the call to cast on for Rosa. i am totally hot for this sweater! the main color will be Navy and i think that i'll be using Kidsilk Night in Oberon for the trim. it's been a while since i've felt this excited about a design!
i'm in desperate need of a hat, but frankly i'm shit at knitting hats. i have a big head and big hair and i can never get them to fit the way that i want. i'm tempted to knit Bounce, but i'll be really bummed if i don't look as goregous wearing mine as Scout does in hers!
tonight is a big tv night (and hence, a big knitting night) - The Amazing Race, True Blood, Brothers & Sisters, and Mad Men. i should be able to finish this sleeve and swatch for Rosa. i'll have to commence the finishing at a tv free moment.
like pretty much everyone else in the knitting blogosphere, i had been eagerly awaiting the release of Wendy Bernard's Custom Knits: Unleash Your Inner Designer with Top-Down and Improvisational Techniques
first up, my favorite design in the book is The Favorite Cardigan. for years, i've been anti-cardigan. they were always a bit too prim or frumpy for my taste. this little number is pretty sexy and i have a good feeling that it will make it on to my needles in the months ahead.
next up, The Not-A-Poncho City Cape. i'm a big fan of the cape. in fact, i have a vintage Pendleton cape that's exactly this shape (but a little longer) and it's one of my favorite things. there's a fine line between the hippy-fied poncho and the sophisticated cape. i think wendy has done a fine job of designing a cape that is both sophisticated and sporty. the more i look at this, the more i'm feeling that i may need to knit it.
and lastly, The Lion Neck Cardigan. it's the kind of sweater i always wish that i owned. it looks so cozy and easy to just throw on with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans. i can never seem to commit to this sort of project. never the less, it's lovely and it gives me something to aspire to!
